Staying Fit Anywhere

It has been an awesome busy week and I have had a great time training clients, athletes and myself!  All of the training took place at a number of different locations throughout the lower mainland and following are the locations and a little information about what happened at each spot. ·         King Ed Village – In an apartment buildings gym I took my client and her 1 year old daughter through a workout ·         Kitsilano Beach Basketball Courts – Trained Rob D in preparation for the Half Ironman Triathlon in Cancun, as well as a quick 30minute butt kicking, and a partner Kettlebell session ·         Target Fitness – Trained lots of clients 1 on 1 and partner sessions... and had a wicked pushup/pullup/skipping workout myself ·         Granville Island Apartment – Trained a couple in their Racquetball court (Agility Ladder and...

Keep Steppin’

well, i just go back from a quick visit to Ontario.  And although I didn't hit a gym I did manage to keep moving the majority of the time.  Something as simple as going for a walk with my little nephew.  So this brings me to what I did last year with my clients.  I had a walking pedometer challenge.  It kept people motivated and helped them stay active any way they can no matter where they were.  There were people who left for Paris, France and had their pedometers with them.  Now that's dedication. In the end, I found people were involved in a bit more physical activity.  So we've decided to run it for August.  I'll be adding a pedometer challenge site with all the info on our website in the upcoming weeks.  In the mean time if...

Better Living Expo ’09

I attended the Better Living Expo this past weekend at the new convention center.  I've never been to one so really didn't know what to expect.  There were tons of vendors and it included everything from oragnic clothing to orgranic pet snacks to organice alcoholic beverages. Or course, I stayed away from the latter... :) As I was wandering around, I was amazed on how sustainable living has exploded.  Everything was about reducing waste, eating less engineered food, protecting our enviroment and healthy living.  As I started chatting with other vendors about their service and products they started to ask what I did.  So I explained to them the Stayfitanywhere vision.  About creating fitness solutions and using online training technologies to keep our own bodies sustainable.  It was about using less but making a huge impact in our quality of life. ...

No time, Make time!

We had some amazing sunshine this past week.  It was awesome to see the warm weather finally arrive.  So I took full advantage of it.  I manage to take a few breaks throughout the day in between slaving away at the computer working on our website.  I broke out the rusty iron weighted golf clubs for the first time this year.  I headed to the UBC driving range and pulled out the 5 iron and took my first swing.  I was hoping for a solid "whap" of the ball and a straight direct line to the 200 yard marker...but instead, I had a "whiff" and a "plop" and watched it slowly roll off the tee and off the mat onto the ground below.  That was definitely not a good start but that was ok, it was only the first time...

Working out isn’t just working out.

It's march already!!  A quarter of the year is almost done.  And within this last quarter I have been training a client of mine in his mid 50's for proper body movements, balance and strength and training his body parts to work in tandem.  Like how our bodies are suppose to work, together as one unit.   This also helped him relieve pain in his lower back and neck and improved his overall posture.  So after progressing through hours of footwork, reaction time, coordination, linked muscles systems, and improved cardio endurance, we had our first match of racquetball.  I myself, as Josh noted in his blogs, am not the most experienced of players, although, I'm sure a few more times at the court and who knows...although, I only play to about 80% of my potential... My client and I had a fantastic time.  He had...

A flight back home…

Hello all...well 2009 has begun.  After travelling back to ontario to visit family, being stuck on the airport runway for a couple of hours, and meeting the lead singer from a bluegrass band from Atlanta, Lovell Sisters, it's great to be back. If you've ever travelled on a plane for a long distance, you know how your body feels all cramped into those tiny uncomfortable kid sized chairs.  That's what makes it so important that you know how to do simple airplane stretch and movement routines.  I was feeling my glutes start to go numb and my back start to ache, so I went into one of my airplane stretch routines.  I was twisting my body like a pretzel with both passengers on either side of me wondering what the heck I was doing.  This got me into one thing...

17 Days till Christmas!

Well, it's almost mid December.  Wow the year has gone fast.  Today seems like a greyish gloomy day in Vancouver.  For all those that don't live here, we do have something called sunny days.  Plus rain in the winter means snow on the mountains!! I did manage to be realitively active in the morning.  A quick upper body weight routine and a jog with the dog down to the the beach and back.  So every little active thing I do, I feel it as an accomplishment.  We're all busy but a little goes a long way.  Just think of all the extra treats and holiday parties coming up.  No need to feel guilty if you can manage do something extra.  Even walking a couple flights of stairs instead of taking that elevator will burn an extra 50 calories.  That's about 1/8th...
