A daily ritual of mine is to peruse new articles and find ones with interesting headings. This one from the Vancouver Sun today caught my attention, Physically active boys tend to be smarter: Study. It was a study on how activity levels can increase congnitive function and development. Although, they were clear to say, they weren't sure if the smarter boys were just more active or if the fitness activites made them smarter. But it was concluded that cardiovascular exercises do improve cognitive function and development. We've even proven it to ourselves, when we manage to tear ourselves away from our work for even 5mins, walk around the office, take deep breaths, it helps refocus and energize us for the next task. I came across another article I found interesting.  It's not soley about fitness or personal training or online personal training but more about technology and how we're addicted.  With virtually everyone in a developed nation hooked to the hip with a digital device like a blackberry, iphone and the need to facebook, myspace and twitter, can we really live without it?  Don't get me wrong, I'm an advid techy, looking for the latest and greatest gadget and how it can used to improve our online personal training system and jazz up our future personal training studio. It’s not just a girl thing…

Well, this is a different blog subject but found it interesting so I'm going to share. I just came across an article about an eating disorder.  Despite all the education, anorexia is still one of the top issues which surrounds the health and fitness industry.   It once was mainly known as an eating disorder for women but now there is a new term for males, "Manorexia".  Not sure why they decided to call it something different when it is the same problem.  Now finally there has been some attention which is focused on males and the eating disorder. Slippin’ Slide…

...no, I'm not talking about all the rain coming down in Vancouver today but all the new fresh ice being put in to the rinks. Yes, the time has arrived, time to dust off those skates and head out to the arenas. It's a terrific activity for not only you but friends and family.  It's great for cardio, balance, speed, power and agility. All fundamentals which Stayfitanywhere embrace.  If you've never skated before, there are many ways to get started, through on ice skating lessons to off ice balance and strength training.  I wish I could skate like a professional hockey player, so I spend some time a couple times a week, strap on my skates, head to the westend rink and practice practice practice.  I'm sure you've all watched a hockey game and probably even follow your favourite hockey team...

Grease Lightning…

Running Around Vancouver

Yesterday was a fabulous day to be doing an amazing race type challenge. If you guys haven't heard of it, it was called CityChase. Teams of two had to find 10 out of 25 checkpoints and then do some crazy activity at each one. Not only did you have to use physical strength but also mental. Everything from sword fighting, solving a rubix cube, choreograph dancing to a pussycat doll song, to eating pig intestines. It was challenging in all aspects. The greatest thing was, you met all like minded people where you built alliances and helped each other out in different events. If you have never tried it before, I would highly recommend it. Keep Steppin’

well, i just go back from a quick visit to Ontario.  And although I didn't hit a gym I did manage to keep moving the majority of the time.  Something as simple as going for a walk with my little nephew.  So this brings me to what I did last year with my clients.  I had a walking pedometer challenge.  It kept people motivated and helped them stay active any way they can no matter where they were.  There were people who left for Paris, France and had their pedometers with them.  Now that's dedication. In the end, I found people were involved in a bit more physical activity.  So we've decided to run it for August.  I'll be adding a pedometer challenge site with all the info on our website in the upcoming weeks.  In the mean time if...

Grinding….

The hot weather is finally here.  Hope everyone is getting out there and basking in the sun.  I hear it's also pretty toasty in Ontario.  Yesterday morning, a friend and I attempted to do our first grind of the season.  I for one, don't really like doing the Grouse Grind.  Every time I start it, I wonder why I start it but every time I finish, I feel a great sense of accomplishment.  Hiking to the top just over 1100 meters and 2.9km in under an hour, 57mins to be exact, is something that I am proud of.  Plus I averaged a HR of 165 and burned 1134 calories while doing so.  I'd like to get it below 50mins by the end of summer.  So that only means that I will have plenty more mental battles of "why am I...

Better Living Expo ’09

I attended the Better Living Expo this past weekend at the new convention center.  I've never been to one so really didn't know what to expect.  There were tons of vendors and it included everything from oragnic clothing to orgranic pet snacks to organice alcoholic beverages. Or course, I stayed away from the latter... :) As I was wandering around, I was amazed on how sustainable living has exploded.  Everything was about reducing waste, eating less engineered food, protecting our enviroment and healthy living.  As I started chatting with other vendors about their service and products they started to ask what I did.  So I explained to them the Stayfitanywhere vision.  About creating fitness solutions and using online training technologies to keep our own bodies sustainable.  It was about using less but making a huge impact in our quality of life. ...

No time, Make time!

We had some amazing sunshine this past week.  It was awesome to see the warm weather finally arrive.  So I took full advantage of it.  I manage to take a few breaks throughout the day in between slaving away at the computer working on our website.  I broke out the rusty iron weighted golf clubs for the first time this year.  I headed to the UBC driving range and pulled out the 5 iron and took my first swing.  I was hoping for a solid "whap" of the ball and a straight direct line to the 200 yard marker...but instead, I had a "whiff" and a "plop" and watched it slowly roll off the tee and off the mat onto the ground below.  That was definitely not a good start but that was ok, it was only the first time...
